CBD and its benefits – Part 3

In our three-part mini-series, we dive into nine medical conditions where CBD may be, or has already proven to be, beneficial.

In this third and final edition we look into its effect in treating acne and Parkinson’s disease as well as nausea and vomiting.

Acne

Although more trials are still required, specific application of CBD has found that it is able to help relieve inflammation as well as the excessive production of sebum which is associated with acne.
A laboratory study found that CBD prevented human sebocytes from creating too much sebum, thus preventing inflammatory cytokines from activating.
Excessive sebum and inflammation are characteristic of acne. Therefore, topical application of CBD has potential to be an effective treatment for acne and may prevent or reduce future breakouts.

Parkinson’s Disease

More trials are still needed however, CBD has shown promise in improving the quality of life in those suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
So far there have been a few smalls studies that have investigated using CBD to relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, and although for most studies there were no differences regarding improvements in movement, those treated with 300mg of CBD per day did report there were experiencing an improved quality of life.

Nausea and vomiting

There have been a few studies into whether CBD is a useful remedy for relieving nausea or vomiting and so far, it has been found to be relatively ineffective when used alone.
In fact, CBD has been found to be effective at relieving nausea and vomiting when combined with THC, with a 2016 review labelling the combination to be either more effective outright or as effective as a placebo.
Further research is pointing towards THC being more effective at reducing nausea and vomiting when used alone as opposed to CBD.
